My father is familiar. We eat, sing karaoke and watch television together. I hug him and he asks if I have eaten. He catches the bugs that I was (and still am) scared of. He spent a week sleeping next to me in the hospital. He works hard to put me in comfort.
My father is a stranger, a simple man of few words and fewer interests. I have known him for a lifetime, yet I do not quite know him. We live together, yet with lives apart. We are similar, yet so different.
We can never reconcile our distance, yet we love each other closely.
